Miami Heat: Public Enemy No. 1

Every sport has a team that everyone loves, hates, or loves to hate. What makes the Miami Heat fit into this category?

The Classics: The challenge that is lent

Recently, I started a series of classic posts, most (well, actually, all) of which came from my columns for the Houstonian at SHSU.

This one talks about the challenge of lent, and my goal to defeat my biggest enemy: myself. Enjoy.

The Classics: Don't fight with flies

Like my "guy thing" post I unleashed on you all recently, the following is another column I wrote for the Houstonian back at SHSU.

Another good read. Enjoy.

The Classics: It's just a guy thing

I wrote the following as a column in the Viewpoints section of my college newspaper, the Houstonian, back at Sam Houston State University.

I thought it was good, so I regurgitated it here. Enjoy.

New Year's Resolutions: Setups for Failure

Nobody's ever happy. Period.

We, as a people, have become so spoiled with all the toys, gadgets, and unfathomable advances in technology, it's ridiculous. I'm not criticizing you, though. That would be the pot calling the kettle black.

But think about it. We scream and chastise our CELLULAR telephones, with INTERNET CAPABILITIES, almost INSTANTANEOUS EMAIL and TEXT MESSAGING, and ability TO MAKE PHONE CALLS ON THE GO when our 3G BROWSERS can't load our "fat man with gun" VIDEO search on YouTube, a website that allows you to WATCH VIDEOS ANYWHERE YOU GO. Seriously. It took my phone almost an entire 30 seconds to buffer that eight-second clip. It's insanity.

We've gone from never needing more than a 2MB floppy disk, to "Yeah, I had to SETTLE for a 16GB iPhone 4S. I didn't feel like spending the extra $100 for the 32GB. It sucks, I can't store all my stuff on there." (<-- actual Mike Silva quote).

Nevertheless, we catch ourselves sometimes, and realize how irrational we're being. But when do we ever try to right our wrongs, or change our ways? The only time people try to better themselves is when there's a special occasion. An occasion like New Year's Eve, the birthdate of the infamous "New Year's Resolution."

Funny Phone Pics - Part I

Life can be boring at times. Don't get me wrong, I can find enjoyment and entertainment in nearly any situation, but sometimes, a bit of comic relief is necessary.

Something I like to do is take candid pictures of people in awkward, or albeit, ridiculous, positions.

Whether someone's doing something stupid, I've noticed a humorous similarity between two things, or something just needs to be documented, I never hesitate to take a picture of it. After all, a picture's worth a thousand words, and maybe a thousand laughs.

The following are a few pictures from my phone's album I thought I'd share with the world. Enjoy.

BCS, FBS, and other inferior acronyms explained in logic

Before I nosedive into this post, I will open with a hypothetical situation.

The American, media-captivated person you are, walk into a Best Buy, or any electronics store for that matter, to pick up a TV.

A store associate approaches you, engages you, sells his pitches on various televisions, and helps you narrow your selection down to two tubes.

TV 1). A 42" LED 1080p Samsung. Has a bajillion HDMI inputs, 240 Hz refresh rate, can stream Netflix, you name it, it's got it.

TV 2). A 26" LCD 720p Dynex. Has two HDMI inputs, 60 Hz refresh rate, can't connect to the internet, and to top it off, is an open-box item.

Here's the catch: each TV is being sold for $350. You're exclaiming, "WHAT?!?!?" to yourself as we speak. Err, as you read.

Which do you choose?
